What medicine besides proactive can remove acne?

Also what causes acne to turn more red? I mean just a few months ago I had mild acne nothing serious but all of a sudden it started to turn red and swell. I think what's causing it is the pizza from my highschool it's the only thing I eat. But my friends also eat that everyday but they don't have acne.
